funky stockings

There's a good possibility that we'll be spending Christmas this year with just our little family of four. All of our Christmas stuff, including stockings, is packed away in a storage shed on a little farm in Idaho. So, just in case I don't get to dig all that out before the holidays, I made some simple and cute Christmas stockings for us to use.

I used this tutorial and made some alterations. Like instead of interfacing I used premium white felt. And instead of using a Cricut to cut out letters I cut mine by hand (really not that hard, once you iron some interfacing on the back). I could have used my Silhouette for this but do not own the fabric blade yet (no worries- it's on my wish list!).

I loved the bold and fun fabric from the tutorial so I picked out similar fabrics for ours. While in the fabric section I found this awesome Dr. Seuss Christmas print that was WAY TOO ADORABLE to resist. Like, I almost died. so cute. And it really turned out perfect for kiddo's stockings!

I used a small zig-zag stitch to applique on the letters, that way the edge of the letter doesn't stick out.
and a larger zig-zag to attach the boot end and sole.

Jonathan made it clear that he wanted a REALLY big stocking. It took some Bug's Life enlarging technique to get the pattern so long (you know when they use light shining through a leaf to cut out a huge bird shape? I promise, it works. Ants are geniuses.)

I love how Cindy Lou is on both the front and back of Charlotte's stocking!
the backs: somehow this pic got blurry.

aren't the little Who's so cute?! I love it.

Yay! These were so much easier to make than I thought. A great pre-Christmas craft for anyone that wants some new updated stockings.
