"Tight Wad Crafts": glammed-up wipes & baby bow ties

Moms, wanna glam up your wipes case?

It is super easy! Here's what you do:
(ps- I find the Huggies wipes cases much easier to work with)
1. Pick out some fun fabric. Those "fat squares" are the perfect size and you have plenty of scrap left over. Then pick out some ribbon & buttons of your liking.
2. Cut the fabric to size around the wipes case. It doesn't have to be perfect because the ribbon will cover the edges anyway. Hot glue the front and back pieces of fabric onto the case.
3. Hot glue your ribbon around all edges. Then glue one strip across the front.
4. Glue those adorable buttons on and you're done!

For a while I've wanted to make some baby bow ties for Talmage, but haven't found a tutorial that I liked. The other night as I was trying to fall asleep I came up with a way to do it that was simple and fast! Those are really the best projects, haha... and since Talmage's birthday is this weekend and Easter is coming up, I thought not only would this make a cute b-day present but look fabulous in some Easter Sunday pictures! The best part is that I got to use up some of my scraps.

Here is my very own tutorial! (sorry for the poor quality pictures)

Right sides facing in, I sewed a trim as close to the edge as possible. Start near the middle, leaving about two fingers width open at the end of the trim.
Snip the loose threads and corners, avoiding the stitches.
Take a skewer or long pointy of some sort to the corners.
Here is a better picture of what the finished piece looks like.

Now that piece is done, set it aside.
Next cut out a smaller strip, about this big folded in half or double the width of what you want the center to be.
Right side out and folded in half, sew the edge then snip loose threads.
Press both pieces with your iron. The smaller strip should be pressed so that the seam is in the middle of the back, like so.

Take the bigger strip and pinch it to make your bow tie shape. You will pinch where the gap is to conceal it. It should fold itself towards the back so that it is unseen. Add a dot of glue on the back where the open seam is and attach one end of the smaller strip. Wrap it around and end it on the back side with another glue dab.
Attach an alligator clip with felt backing on the backside of your finished bow tie.
Add another tiny piece of felt to the metal part that will be touching baby's skin.

And there you are.

because I eyeballed it when I cut out the strips, they turned out to be different sizes. but I actually like the variety :)
see that pink one? it turned out the best because it's flannel, which is naturally soft and poofy. just a tip :)

Who says little boys can't have accessories?
